MDCVSA Benefits
The Metro DC Virginia Soccer Association (MDCVSA) is one of fifty state associations within the United States Adult Soccer Association (USASA). The USASA is one of ten major entities within the United States Soccer Federation (USSF). Examples of other USSF member organizations are the professional soccer leagues (MLS and A-League) and youth soccer leagues (US Youth Soccer, US Club Soccer, American Youth Soccer Organization, etc.).
There are a number of different (sometimes competing) soccer administrative bodies, but ultimately they are working towards the overall national development of soccer. The U.S. Soccer Federation does a lot of hard work on behalf of their members. Their most noticeable achievement is supporting men's and women's national teams (both ranked in the top ten in the world). USSF has also set aside resources for four boy's youth teams and four girl's youth teams. US Soccer & the US Soccer Foundation have developed the National Training Center in Los Angeles so that these teams have a place to practice, and they also set up the Brandenton Academy in Florida to help educate and develop young talent. When the SARS crisis hit China, it was U.S. Soccer who marshaled resources to attract the Women's World Cup to the USA, putting at risk a lot of money to stage a well-run competition with 3 months' notice, during the busy baseball / football seasons. U.S. Soccer can only exist if they have money coming in from member organizations like the USASA and MDCVSA. If we want soccer to grow as a sport, we need to support the overall administrative framework.
The MDCVSA offers noticeable benefits for ALL players - even our recreational players: The MDCVSA provides liability insurance to leagues, which covers up to $2 million in damages. This is important coverage for all league and team managers.
The MDCVSA also provides secondary medical insurance to uninsured and lower-insured players, with a $500 deductible and a $5,000 maximum per occurrence (leagues have the option to increase this coverage to $10,000 by paying an additional premium). While the secondary medical insurance may not seem like a great benefit for someone with insurance through their workplace, this coverage is valuable to your unemployed or under-employed players without any insurance. For a description of these benefits, see http://www.mdcvsa.org/insurancesummary.pdf.
The MDCVSA supports one of the best State Referee Programs in the country. See http://www.vadcsoccerref.com for their website. Should you ever have a case of referee abuse or referee assault in your league, you can turn to the MDCVSA to handle the disciplinary hearing for your player -- and any enforcement actions would carry state-wide for that player. In that capacity, the MDCVSA protect the interests of the referees AND leagues AND players. Fees collected by the MDCSA also support the national training, certification and assessment programs for all USSF referees.
The MDCVSA actively supports affiliated tournament like the Neptune Soccer Classic, and fees collected by the MDCVSA help fund programs such as the USASA National Cup, Veteran’s Cup and Coed Cup (see http://www.mdcvsa.org/nationalcup.html) for the benefit of our best premier-level teams and teams seeking to test their skills against teams from other states.
And the MDCVSA support the efforts of the six professional and
semi-professional teams in Virginia and Washington DC.
